Who dat, says who dat?

With the S&P ending nearly 40% down in 2008, never mind all the worldwide markets and economies busting; total jobless rolls higher, and statistically worse than the 1930's; and the promise of 2009 being worse, so that we would look at 2008 nostalgically; who does NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg pick to kiss and press the button that lowers the ball to end 2008?

Why its the Bill and Hill Clinton's of course! Talking about ludicrous? Why not get a representative of NY C's Homeless to punch the button?

The reckless abandon that FDR and his New Deal, not to mention the New New Deal we have facing taxpayers for years to come, with promises of the New Year to be worse than '08. How low is low?

The Dollar is no longer a safe tax haven for the world, and just what is safe for investors, should they have anything left to invest after this free-for-all?

Is there ANY hope for us, the little man?

Old Madoff, made off with $50 Billion, spending all but $200 million, according to the latest report...and he's under home arrest to his million dollar apartment on Park Avenue. How does he do that? I am surprised that when he leaves his abode there is no one there to blow him up...as he did to all those folks who invested with him to help with worldwide charities. Scum bag!

Bloomberg should have had Madoff press the ball button, cause this crazy Ponzi schemer should know how to bust balls, right?

Shhhh! Don't tell anybody!

Ya know, some time it doesn't pay to get out of bed and check up on those rascals in Wishingtonia.

You ask why?

Those buzzards, and I don't know if I would equate our wonderful congress people in the same class as buzzards, because buzzards actually do what they are supposed to do and congress? Well...if you weren't teed off before, this came to my attention several days ago and I forgot where I read it, and then found it again thanks to George Ure's site www.urbansurvival.com. Hat tip George! If you haven't read his site, you are missing a GREAT daily read...

With economy in shambles, Congress gets a raise
By Jordy Yager
Posted: 12/17/08 05:41 PM [ET]

A crumbling economy, more than 2 million constituents who have lost their jobs this year, and congressional demands of CEOs to work for free did not convince lawmakers to freeze their own pay.

Instead, they will get a $4,700 pay increase, amounting to an additional $2.5 million that taxpayers will spend on congressional salaries, and watchdog groups are not happy about it.

“As lawmakers make a big show of forcing auto executives to accept just $1 a year in salary, they are quietly raiding the vault for their own personal gain,” said Daniel O’Connell, chairman of The Senior Citizens League (TSCL), a non-partisan group. “This money would be much better spent helping the millions of seniors who are living below the poverty line and struggling to keep their heat on this winter.”

However, at 2.8 percent, the automatic raise that lawmakers receive is only half as large as the 2009 cost of living adjustment of Social Security recipients.

Still, Steve Ellis, vice president of the budget watchdog Taxpayers for Common Sense, said Congress should have taken the rare step of freezing its pay, as lawmakers did in 2000.

“Look at the way the economy is and how most people aren’t counting on a holiday bonus or a pay raise — they’re just happy to have gainful employment,” said Ellis. “But you have the lawmakers who are set up and ready to get their next installment of a pay raise and go happily along their way.”

Member raises are often characterized as examples of wasteful spending, especially when many constituents and businesses in members’ districts are in financial despair.

Rep. Harry Mitchell, a first-term Democrat from Arizona, sponsored legislation earlier this year that would have prevented the automatic pay adjustments from kicking in for members next year. But the bill, which attracted 34 cosponsors, failed to make it out of committee.

“They don’t even go through the front door. They have it set up so that it’s wired so that you actually have to undo the pay raise rather than vote for a pay raise,” Ellis said.

Freezing congressional salaries is hardly a new idea on Capitol Hill.

Lawmakers have floated similar proposals in every year dating back to 1995, and long before that. Though the concept of forgoing a raise has attracted some support from more senior members, it is most popular with freshman lawmakers, who are often most vulnerable.

In 2006, after the Republican-led Senate rejected an increase to the minimum wage, Democrats, who had just come to power in the House with a slew of freshmen, vowed to block their own pay raise until the wage increase was passed. The minimum wage was eventually increased and lawmakers received their automatic pay hike.

In the beginning days of 1789, Congress was paid only $6 a day, which would be about $75 daily by modern standards. But by 1965 members were receiving $30,000 a year, which is the modern equivalent of about $195,000.

Currently the average lawmaker makes $169,300 a year, with leadership making slightly more. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) makes $217,400, while the minority and majority leaders in the House and Senate make $188,100.

Ellis said that while freezing the pay increase would be a step in the right direction, it would be better to have it set up so that members would have to take action, and vote, for a pay raise and deal with the consequences, rather than get one automatically.

“It is probably never going to be politically popular to raise Congress’s salary,” he said. “I don’t think you’re going to find taxpayers saying, ‘Yeah I think I should pay my congressman more’.”

I guess what I am attempting to do is to destroy your appetite with the upcoming holiday meal. You know everyone always complains about how much weight they gain this time of year.

Maybe we should head to our friendly Congress person's home to partake, as they sure are partaking from us, right?

Wonder whose goose got cooked this year?

Merry HoMama

As I make this new post, I feel more like our wonderful guvment is a Merry HoMama.

Posted today by AP, an account of where our hard-earned future taxes are going ... what we will never see, what our children, great-grands, hell, nobody will see ... ever!

It seems our beloved guvment got in bed with the financiers, who screwed, blued and tattooed us, while we weren't looking. (See what I meant about tying your head around this one in the last post?)

AP study finds $1.6B went to bailed-out bank execs

By FRANK BASS and RITA BEAMISH
Associated Press Writers

Banks that are getting taxpayer bailouts awarded their top executives nearly $1.6 billion in salaries, bonuses, and other benefits in the calendar year 2007, an Associated Press analysis reveals.

The rewards came even at banks where poor results last year foretold the economic crisis that sent them to Washington for a government rescue. Some trimmed their executive compensation due to lagging bank performance, but still forked over multimillion-dollar executive pay packages.

Benefits included cash bonuses, stock options, personal use of company jets and chauffeurs, home security, country club memberships and professional money management, the AP review of federal securities documents found.

The total amount given to nearly 600 executives would cover bailout costs for 53 of the 116 banks that have so far accepted tax dollars to boost their bottom lines.

Rep. Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services committee and a long-standing critic of executive largess, said the bonuses tallied by the AP review amount to a bribe "to get them to do the jobs for which they are well paid in the first place.

"Most of us sign on to do jobs and we do them best we can," said Frank, a Massachusetts Democrat. "We're told that some of the most highly paid people in executive positions are different. They need extra money to be motivated!"

The AP compiled total compensation based on annual reports that the banks file with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The 116 banks have so far received $188 billion in taxpayer help. Among the findings:

-The average paid to each of the banks' top executives was $2.6 million in salary, bonuses and benefits.

-Lloyd Blankfein, president and chief executive officer of Goldman Sachs, took home nearly $54 million in compensation last year. The company's top five executives received a total of $242 million.

This year, Goldman will forgo cash and stock bonuses for its seven top-paid executives. They will work for their base salaries of $600,000, the company said. Facing increasing concern by its own shareholders on executive payments, the company described its pay plan last spring as essential to retain and motivate executives "whose efforts and judgments are vital to our continued success, by setting their compensation at appropriate and competitive levels." Goldman spokesman Ed Canaday declined to comment beyond that written report.

The New York-based company on Dec. 16 reported its first quarterly loss since it went public in 1999. It received $10 billion in taxpayer money on Oct. 28.

-Even where banks cut back on pay, some executives were left with seven- or eight-figure compensation that most people can only dream about. Richard D. Fairbank, the chairman of Capital One Financial Corp., took a $1 million hit in compensation after his company had a disappointing year, but still got $17 million in stock options. The McLean, Va.-based company received $3.56 billion in bailout money on Nov. 14.

-John A. Thain, chief executive officer of Merrill Lynch, topped all corporate bank bosses with $83 million in earnings last year. Thain, a former chief operating officer for Goldman Sachs, took the reins of the company in December 2007, avoiding the blame for a year in which Merrill lost $7.8 billion. Since he began work late in the year, he earned $57,692 in salary, a $15 million signing bonus and an additional $68 million in stock options.

Like Goldman, Merrill got $10 billion from taxpayers on Oct. 28.

The AP review comes amid sharp questions about the banks' commitment to the goals of the Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP), a law designed to buy bad mortgages and other troubled assets. Last month, the Bush administration changed the program's goals, instructing the Treasury Department to pump tax dollars directly into banks in a bid to prevent wholesale economic collapse.

The program set restrictions on some executive compensation for participating banks, but did not limit salaries and bonuses unless they had the effect of encouraging excessive risk to the institution. Banks were barred from giving golden parachutes to departing executives and deducting some executive pay for tax purposes.

Banks that got bailout funds also paid out millions for home security systems, private chauffeured cars, and club dues. Some banks even paid for financial advisers. Wells Fargo of San Francisco, which took $25 billion in taxpayer bailout money, gave its top executives up to $20,000 each to pay personal financial planners.

At Bank of New York Mellon Corp., chief executive Robert P. Kelly's stipend for financial planning services came to $66,748, on top of his $975,000 salary and $7.5 million bonus. His car and driver cost $178,879. Kelly also received $846,000 in relocation expenses, including help selling his home in Pittsburgh and purchasing one in Manhattan, the company said.

Goldman Sachs' tab for leased cars and drivers ran as high as $233,000 per executive. The firm told its shareholders this year that financial counseling and chauffeurs are important in giving executives more time to focus on their jobs.

JPMorgan Chase chairman James Dimon ran up a $211,182 private jet travel tab last year when his family lived in Chicago and he was commuting to New York. The company got $25 billion in bailout funds.

Banks cite security to justify personal use of company aircraft for some executives. But Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., questioned that rationale, saying executives visit many locations more vulnerable than the nation's security-conscious commercial air terminals.

Sherman, a member of the House Financial Services Committee, said pay excesses undermine development of good bank economic policies and promote an escalating pay spiral among competing financial institutions - something particularly hard to take when banks then ask for rescue money.

He wants them to come before Congress, like the automakers did, and spell out their spending plans for bailout funds.

"The tougher we are on the executives that come to Washington, the fewer will come for a bailout," he said.

As the wizard said as he sailed into the sunset without Dorothy, "I can't come back, I don't know how it works!"

Obviously, those in Wishingtonia don't know how it works either, those stinking pork-barreled, greed-mongering flying monkeys. I never did like those ugly monkeys and our capital is FULL of them.

Who can you trust anymore? Where is Glenda and those ruby slippers when you need them?

Who could have imagined a better Christmas?

Everything appears to be coming apart at the seams.

No take I it back...everything is coming apart at the seams. I really hate to say this, but when I was a 1972 high school senior, I imagined something like this to happen to my world. I really did. And although we are just at the precipice of it all, it is reality, and there is no going back.

Tis the season?

Somehow, for me, it began when I found out that there was no Santa Claus...I know I've said this before, in earlier posts. But this is something you really need to put your head around and digest. It is a difficult thing to do, as escaping only prolongs the pain, and if you don't, then you can't blame anyone but yourself. The truth is out there to be discovered and you best hurry before it is hidden.

Today I watched The Net with Sandra Bullock...a great sci-fi flick showing what could happen to one person's identity should they discover truths. Oh, I know, this could never happen, yeah, right. One website I follow, shows how many leading world scientists who have mysteriously died or have been murdered. Say it ain't so...want the site, let me know...but I digress here...

What happens when Mom and Dad lies to you? If you have a real sense of reality, you begin to think that everything is a lie. It is.

From our heralded halls of justice right down to the Wizard of Oz, and the promise of something wonderful as though someone, or something, would bring us to that special place, where the young in heart exist...Ah, those years of innocence, where did they go?

I don't make this stuff up, but thank goodness I am a good researcher, or else we'd all be blind, huh?

"It's Kristallnacht Two!" An Ethnic Cleansing in America

By ALEXANDER COCKBURN

Call any Jewish friend across the few days and the degrees of separation from someone financially devastated by Bernie Madoff are often only one or two. One rich Jewish friend in New York volunteers that because of some intricate family dispute his own money hadn’t been parked at Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC. On the other hand his uncle had woken up the morning after Madoff’s arrest to discover that the $40 million he’d entrusted to Bernie was gone forever, along with the multi-million pension fund of his workforce, which he’d also entrusted to Madoff.

It’s not just ruined heiresses in the Palm Beach Country Club now faced with the prospect of dividing the contents of the Whiskas can into two equal portions for mistress and cat, it’s academics on Ivy League campuses, doctors in Santa Monica, rich people from Boston to San Francisco to the West Side of Los Angeles finding their retirement nest eggs or charitable trusts wiped out overnight.

In terms of financial and psychological impact, Bernard Madoff's $50 billion heist certainly ranks as a major ethnic cleansing here in America, a hugely traumatic event for American Jewry. Of course Madoff had clients of every creed and nation, but he made a specialty of trolling for Jewish money. I asked a Jewish woman I know here in California if any in her circle had taken a hit. She looked at me tremulously, shaking her head, on the edge of tears. Though no one was in immediate earshot, she whispered, “They kept telling me to put my money with Madoff. At that time the entry level was $250,000. I dodged the bullet. Some of my friends didn’t. They’ve lost everything. This is Kristallnacht Two.” Her fear and horror would scarcely have been diminished if she’d heard what a perfectly nice young person had remarked to me earlier, apropos the Madoff affair: “Now the rich people will know what it’s like.”

"‘It’s an atomic bomb in the world of Jewish philanthropy,’ Mark Charendoff, president of the Jewish Funders Network, told Anthony Weiss and Gabrielle Birkner of The Forward newspaper. ‘There’s going to be fallout from this for years to come.’ The collapse of the investment firm of Bernard Madoff has opened a black hole at the center of the tight knit circles of wealthy Jews who socialize and do business together, and who, year after year, support Jewish causes… ”

Among those apparently taking serious and even financially fatal hits: Yeshiva University in New York; Senator Frank Lautenberg, New York Mets owner Fred Wilpon, real estate and media mogul Mortimer Zuckerman (“significantly hurt”), GMAC Financial Services chairman J. Ezra Merkin (who ran a hedge fund, Ascot Partners, which reinvested many charities’ funds with Madoff), the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity, Steven Spielberg’s Wunderkinder Foundation, Jeff Katzenberg, the Boston-based Robert I. Lappin Charitable Foundation (which has closed its doors), Eliot Spitzer’s family, the Chais Family Foundation, the Carl and Ruth Shapiro Foundation, Hadassah (the Women’s Zionist Organization of America), the United Jewish Endowment Fund of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington , the Los Angeles’ Jewish Community Foundation’s $238 million Common Investment Pool, the American Jewish Congress, the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

It’s a savage body blow to the commercial real estate market in New York. Christine Haughney in Friday’s New York Times quotes Robert J. Ivanhoe, a lawyer who is representing 10 developers and investors who lost $5 million to $50 million each, as saying “The level of devastation, both financial and on a human level, is astounding,” Haughney cites a Manhattan psychotherapist who counsels real estate leaders and bankers as saying “most of the patients he has seen this week have close friends and relatives who lost money with Mr. Madoff. The victims include executives at the global commercial brokerage CB Richard Ellis, most prominently Stephen Siegel, a major Bronx landlord who is chairman of worldwide operations at the brokerage.”

A huge problem is that many developers were using their investments with Madoff as collateral on projects and now banks are saying, “Show us the money.” Residential real estate will take a hit too as people back out of purchases because they’ve lost their money , or abandon coops because they can longer afford the annual fees and mortgage payments.

Pam Martens, CounterPuncher and former Wall St stockbroker, points out to me that “Yes, in the early years Madoff and his brother, Peter, worked the Jewish country clubs and got referrals from referrals. But as he ran into trouble with redemptions and needed ever larger pools of new money, he turned to funds of funds (hedge funds that raise money and then dole it out to various hedge fund money managers). That meant that Madoff really didn't know who the ultimate individual investors were. That also means that a lot of these people don't yet know they're victims because they were never told by their fund of funds that their money went to Madoff. (He would not let his name be given out by the fund of funds; obviously so the SEC couldn't figure out how much money he was really taking in.) So expect to hear a lot more big names being announced as victims over the next few weeks.”

"People are horrified. They are frightened of being exposed. They don't know how to go on," said a Boston-area psychologist, cited in an interesting story by Svea Herbst of Reuters: “Many duped investors have been left with a sense of betrayal so strong that it will cause severe psychological scars, said Dr. James Grubman, a psychologist who counsels wealthy families in the Boston area struggling with the emotional issues of having money. "He gave his investors a lot of intangibles. He allowed people to feel they were part of an exclusive club, part of the 'in crowd' and ultimately deemed worthy of investing with him."

How did Madoff, despite widespread suspicions across many years, continue to allure so many investors, smart fellows like Steven Spielberg well equipped with expert number crunchers? The most gullible dupes of all are those who preen themselves as being privileged accomplices in a profitable conspiracy, at scant risk to themselves. Part of Madoff’s genius as a swindler was that he turned many away. As my father, Claud, used to joke to me, “Alexander, people talk about ‘falling into the clutches of money lenders. I had to force my way in.” Madoff would turn down applicants unless they could put up millions, and that of course vastly increased the zeal of the suckers to be on a good thing, to join the exclusive club.

Of course many of them thought Madoff’s famous model was dubious. After all, how could the laws of financial gravity be defied, year after year, producing an unending yield (for the fortunate) of 10 to 12 per cent annual returns on capital invested. But the thought came with a knowing wink, that Bernie was scoring these huge returns, by being in the know, running on the inside track, using insider knowledge. As my father pointed out to me many times, many people have a bit of larceny in their bloodstream, and it’s what con men trade on, as Gogol imperishably described in Dead Souls.

CounterPuncher Pam Martens, who will be writing about the affair here in a few days, was on to Madoff back in 1991, as Susan Antilla described in a column on Bloomberg. Martens was “taking over management of a customer’s municipal-bond portfolio, but was alarmed when she heard how the man had invested the rest of his nest egg.

"He told me that the bulk of his money was with Bernie Madoff, and that Madoff guarantees a 13 percent a year return. I said, “First of all, that’s impossible, and second of all, that’s illegal.’” Martens got copies of the man’s brokerage statements and phoned Madoff. “I said, ‘I’m looking at Mr. X’s statements, and it’s clear you’re not doing anything here that generated 13 percent a year,’ He said, ‘No one has ever dared question what I’m doing.’”

In the years that followed, there were those who did question. Some of them pressed their suspicions upon bodies like the SEC, stating emphatically their view that Madoff was running a Ponzi game. Madoff sailed through the charges for a variety of reasons. First, he posed as a regulator and due diligence watchdog himself. The SEC thought he was one of their own. Then again, he had heavy duty social and financial connections and heavy duty political protection. Here’s where there should be a lot more investigation. Madoff poured money into the Democratic Senatorial Campaign war chest ($100,000 between 2005 and 2008)and made large contributions to important Democrats on the Finance Committees, like Rep Henry Waxman and Senator Charles Schumer. Waxman and Schumer have hastily announced they’re donating this money to charity. (Who knows? Maybe the donations have gone to the next Ponzi racket down the food chain so it’ll come back to them again as protection money.)

The carnage will go on for years. As Dean Rotbart points out in The Jewish Journal:

“A phalanx of plaintiffs attorneys are trolling this very moment for clients who are certain to mount a legal assault on charities, universities and other non-profits in a bid to force them to disgorge past donations whose origins can be linked back to the Madoff scheme.

“At the very least, large numbers of individuals and institutions who today consider themselves to be victims of the Madoff scandal should brace for forthcoming legal actions that will allege their remaining wealth is not theirs at all – rather, it is the recoverable property of other claimants who were bilked by Madoff.

To keep their libraries, laboratories, scholarship programs, hospital services, meal programs and the like, universities and other non-profits who continue to operate in the wake of the Madoff scandal will also almost certainly have to retain law firms to combat efforts to strip those non-profits of past Madoff-related donations – whether directly from Madoff or indirectly from Madoff investors.”

Maybe not. Since a ot of Madoff-derived money went to Israel, I think perhaps we will soon see Congress rush through legislation to limit the liability of Madoff recipient non-profits, with President Obama , whose campagn contributions surely included Madoff money too, only to happy to sign on the dotted line.

On the larger canvas, what exactly separates Madoff’s operation from those of the banks rewarded for their shady follies by a $700 billion bailout? Just like Madoff, the banks finally had to admit that all their public financial statements were false, that the supposed assets were worthless.

The operating assumption of the Ponzi scheme is that the tide will always rise, that old investors can be repaid by the infusions ponied up by the fresh recruits. For the past twenty years the entire American economy has become—to quote Bernie’s succinct résumé of his business to his sons —“a giant Ponzi scheme,”.

Uncle Sam is the biggest Ponzi operator of all, with the added magical power denied Madoff (unless forgery was among his talents) of being able to print money at will. CounterPunch tip of the week. Wheelbarrow stocks. Buy ‘em while the price is right. Soon Americans will be needing wheelbarrows to put the money in to go shopping. A vast new wheelbarrow industry could be part of Obama’s recovery plan. Collapsible wheelbarrows for the soccer moms to get in the back of the Volvo. Electric-powered wheelbarrows. Hybrid wheelbarrows from GM. Gold-plated wheelbarrows from the Defense sector.

This was no one-man operation, run after hours by Madoff with a secret ledger. No one person can single-handedly run a $50 billion business, even one with cooked books. This was a family business. Every decade has its signature swindles capturing the zeitgeist, and we remember them fondly – from Clifford Irving’s homage to Howard Hughes, the Hitler Diaries, Keating. Madoff is in the pantheon now. Though the legal obstacles will be formidable, I hope Spielberg, one of those stung by Madoff, gets around to making a movie about him. The Jewish Journal has even comes up with a title for him, Swindler’s List.

Oh, me, let me go "follow the yellow brick road!"

Edukashun -21st cenutyr stile?

Yep, we need to build buildings to get our kids into the 21st century learnin. Seen in a Burger King window in Memphis, please read carefully. Hat tip to David for sending me this jewel!

Buildings always helped me learn...not the instructors, the lesson plans, the curriculum. Kinda makes one think twice, about this upcoming trillion dollar package.

With all the problems this country faces, I don't see throwing money at "sub-prime" contractors to build these magnificent structures...remember the $400 toilet seat?

Yeah, I trust those construction companies...sounds like another Chicagoland deal. Except this time we, the US gets taken to the cleaners, not just Illinois.

This takes us back to Gov. Hot Rod and crew. You know something smells about this whole deal. Corruption following corruption, four governors have gone to prison because of the corruption. So what makes this so different? Just the fact that President-elect Obama's Chief of Staff, Emanuel and Axelrod, are somehow involved...well, why are they keeping quiet now? why won't they answer questions from the Press.

Can we say oops?

Well, first of all, who runs for the Office of President of the US, that only pays $400K a year? Sure you live in the big house, have Secret Service watching your butt 24/7 and many other perks, but at what cost? Over 1/2 billion dollars? Can you say overkill? Was it all spent? Are there any monies left? I mean, I know advertising and the like cost a lot, but this is overkill, right? The big staged productions, for what?

Now if he was really wanting to be like his idol, JFK, he would donate ALL his salary to charities. Bet you didn't know that about JFK. I think about him (JFK) much differently once I found out this information.

So pony up Mr. President-elect, give unto others as you would have them give unto you...what do you think?

If he were really serious about helping his beloved country, why not spread the funds into the problems at hand...oh yeah, he's going to spend our money.

Nothing to surprise us now, right?

We couldn't possibly be so surprised as when we find out that there is such extra-ordinary corruption within our democratic form of government.

Why?

Is it so important to sell your soul to the devil , just to get to the top?

In an article in Salon Magazine, "What do the Clinton's have on Obama?", the question, asked and answered, proves one thing.

Power corrupts. Absolute power will destroy.

Although we are stuck with choices made yesterday, we can only hope that whatever is in place now, we are in deep dooo dooo, if we don't make changes for tomorrow.

What has happened to Gov. Hot Rod in Illinois, didn't just happen. Over the course of many years of plotting and scheming in Chi (pronounced "shy") town, some of these allegations come from Tony Rezco's recent felony conviction.

Remember Tony? He and his wife, sold the house next to them, to our President-elect and his wife. Some of the scenarios of Michelle and Hot Rod's wife job resumes sound the same, or at least the desire on the Gov.'s wife's part. She wanted a job like Michelle's, paying 6-figures, as part of one of his deals. I just don't think he was able to obtain his goal, do you?

Apparently, all this has been coming since Rezco's conviction and rather squeal, softening his incarceration time, he came forward with all he knows...I somehow doubt that he will be "that" honest. After all, he knows, a pardon is just a door knock away.

In Prez-elect's news conference today, the PE said he had not spoken to Hot Rod in way, shape or form, about any sale of his senate seat. Only time will tell...unless the FBI could be complicit in hiding information from us...and phone records hidden...not that they would do that, would they?

How much does it cost to live in the White House? How much can we afford?

While googling the news this morning, I found this interesting article from The Bulletin - Philadelphia's Family Newspaper.

There is now growing evidence that Sen. Barack Obama bought the White House by using illegal and fraudulent fundraising, but that's a story you won't read in the mainstream media. You will read about it here today. While that story of Obama election law violations is still developing, what is the mainstream media reporting on? The New York Times isn't interested in election fraud ... if committed by Sen. Obama and the Democrats. So it is using its resources to investigate the amount of money the McCain campaign spent on hair stylists for Gov. Sarah Palin. (New York Times, Dec. 6, 2008). They've already investigated the amount spent on her wardrobe. Yes, the bias and dishonesty of the New York Times no longer just oozes out, it floods out in epic proportions. The once great paper has become a sad joke, a puppet and propagandist for the Democratic Party that can hardly write an honest word on politics.

For full story, click on headline.

Apparently, the Federal Election Commission is concerned, and has been for some time, about where all the funding came from, as many irregularities have raised their nasty heads bringing to light things that I am certain Obama, himself, had no control over.

However, I know, as everyone does, that if you want something bad enough, you may be tempted to sell your soul to the highest bidder.

I can only hope this is not the case. I can only hope that at the end of his tenure, we will be a better Nation, but only time will tell.

Naughty or Nice--The 21st Century New Deal

When looking at the 21st century New Deal, I have to wonder just what is involved in this plan and what effect it will have on all of us.

Obama's plan is a follows...

—ENERGY: “[W]e will launch a massive effort to make public buildings more energy-efficient. Our government now pays the highest energy bill in the world. We need to change that. We need to upgrade our federal buildings by replacing old heating systems and installing efficient light bulbs. That won’t just save you, the American taxpayer, billions of dollars each year. It will put people back to work.”

Public buildings energy efficient, but what about my home being made the same? The government is paying the highest energy bill. No, we pay for that energy being used. And who solicited bids for those buildings to be built? Our government. Did they not see an energy crisis coming? If they are the be all and end all, where did they go wrong? Where did we go wrong? Are we not responsible for the waste and inefficiency by re-electing the suits that blatantly believe they deserve a second, third, fourth, chance to make things right? Have they exhibited such discretion once arriving in Wishingtonia, or are they indoctrinated into the "ways and means" of how Wishingtonia works.

And don't get me started on the auto industry. Why didn't they see what was coming? Couldn't they see what cars were being sold--Honda (which after 23 years, my 86 Civic SI is doing just fine, needs a paint job, but doing just fine)--Nissan, which we own a 20 year old 240 SX) --or Volkswagon, and yes I have a 1972 Yellow Super Beetle, whose smile was made crooked from a hit and run several years ago, but gets around just fine! So what is wrong with Detroit?

But back to the subject at hand...How are we going to get the "money men lobbyists" from enticing our elected reps with bribes and treats, in order to vote in their favor. Unless they are banished from our halls of justice, nothing will change. So how much energy will be saved once our POTUS institutes this new edict? How will the new contracts be allocated to resurrect our old buildings with the new green technology?

We have a federal building in a neighboring county that has been put up for sale. They recently built a new post office out of the downtown area and also built a Social Security office next door. The "old" building was built in 1965 and fully occupied by federal offices until about 10 years ago. All that is housed there now is a post office and a USDA office.

Where are the monies coming from? How much more money can we Americans print?

—ROADS AND BRIDGES: “[W]e will create millions of jobs by making the single largest new investment in our national infrastructure since the creation of the federal highway system in the 1950s. We’ll invest your precious tax dollars in new and smarter ways, and we’ll set a simple rule – use it or lose it. If a state doesn’t act quickly to invest in roads and bridges in their communities, they’ll lose the money.”

Have you ever watched a road crew work? Why it only takes 50 or 60 men to stand around while a paver paves, a flagman flag traffic, but the rest are just standing around, smoking cigarettes, yapping on cell phones, while just three or four are actually getting the work done. Yep, that will provide millions of jobs.

Boy, I can think of many roads and bridges within 30 miles that urgently need repair. But, again, where is the money coming from? Oh, yeah, our precious tax dollars. I thought we were going to lower taxes. I don't see the wealthy parting with their hard earned cash,(mostly earned by hook, crook, steal or deal) in order to put this country back on its feet. If we looked at these states who profited from the fed co-investments, and by looked, I mean a required full financial auditing of the coffers, I believe we would find something quite amiss. Although, one would look from the top down for fraud, believe me, the little learn from the big.

As in a nearby county, the state tax commission recognized and found massive fraud within the county assessor's office, thereby, arresting every employee, including the tax assessor, for selling car tags with "county" addresses versus their actual city address. The employees discounted the fees, taking kickbacks, in order to feather their own pockets. Where did they learn this behavior, or believe that what they were doing was right, if not from the top.

—SCHOOLS: “[M]y economic recovery plan will launch the most sweeping effort to modernize and upgrade school buildings that this country has ever seen. We will repair broken schools, make them energy-efficient, and put new computers in our classrooms. Because to help our children compete in a 21st century economy, we need to send them to 21st century schools.”

Upgrading school buildings will not attract the talent needed to advance the education of our youth. Throwing money at physical structures won't make them educator or educational friendly. Energy-efficient schools and new computers won't educate the students. 21st Century schools are in need of 21st century teachers.

It is the educational system that is broken, not the school buildings, themselves. What made the 19th Century schools thrive and survive? It wasn't the physical building, but the education process.

I recently read where the Department of Education had nearly 4,000 employees dictating their suggestions into the the states, few of whom held a degree in Education. What is wrong with this picture?

—BROADBAND: “As we renew our schools and highways, we’ll also renew our information superhighway. It is unacceptable that the United States ranks 15th in the world in broadband adoption. Here, in the country that invented the Internet, every child should have the chance to get online, and they’ll get that chance when I’m president – because that’s how we’ll strengthen America’s competitiveness in the world.”

(Incoming White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel had talked about expanding broadband access, but this is the first time the transition has formally proposed it.)

Oh, don't get me started...In a little, nearby village obtained guvment funding for a museum honoring a Civil Rights activist. They were able to obtain funding to build a broadband access tower to provide free service to the entire community. That was over a year ago. The only broadband service provided is to the museum, a few of the townsfolk and the mayor. When inquiring about obtaining access, I was informed it would cost $80 a month. What happened to community-wide free access?

—ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORDS: “In addition to connecting our libraries and schools to the Internet, we must also ensure that our hospitals are connected to each other through the Internet. That is why the economic recovery plan I’m proposing will help modernize our health care system – and that won’t just save jobs, it will save lives. We will make sure that every doctor’s office and hospital in this country is using cutting edge technology and electronic medical records so that we can cut red tape, prevent medical mistakes, and help save billions of dollars each year.”

Now this is one I can't wrap my head around. Am I supposed to provide all my history to one hospital, just to get it moved to a centralized location. I'm sorry, I don't travel that much and i don't think red tape is what its all about anyway. I somehow think that big brother wants total control of my life and times and all that I am. When will they be satisfied? Or will I wind up in some database that will tell them its time to retire me to the farm, as in "Wild In The Streets"--where those that reach the age of 30 are put to rest on LSD farms.

I'm sorry, I must go take a classical music break...something to let me think of happier times, when I did believe in Santa Claus...maybe The Nutcracker Suite, cause some body's nuts are about to be cracked.

Before ending my rant, I must say, the day I realized there wasn't a Santa, I was sorely disappointed in my parents. How could they lie to me? If you can't trust your parents, how the hell can you trust Uncle Sam?

Oh such are the thoughts of a cynic.

Out of Touch, Out of Mind

As our economy drifts further and further in an obsessive desire to bankrupt our society because of GREED of the big men on Wall Street, Main Street and our willingness to elect those big pork spenders in guvment, who have a license to steal and take control of every means of our freedoms, I become more cynical.

Gone are the days when one could wait til the last minute to pay bills, allowing us to say when our monies transferred. However, nowadays, the moment an item is purchased, it instantly leaves our account. Ah, gone are the days of playing the float.

And thus my delay in getting a post out. You see, the last two weeks, I have been in utter chaos, being cut off from the outside world when Bell South cut off, abolishing my service, for non-payment.

I was literally online signing into the bill paying site, awaiting my husband's awakening so I could ask him a question before paying (yes, there are women who believe men should be the head of the household), when they cut me off. I couldn't believe that I had gotten so close to the cut off time...and thus, to cut it back on, they wanted an exorbitant fee, which was not in the budget. I must admit, phone service, in this day and time, is not in the budget. With all the cutbacks and all, we don't waste money on cell phones, nor satellite dishes, or cable. Cell phones roam; satellite dishes are stolen, and cable has no intention nor being close to offered in the outbacks anyway. I suppose being at the end of the line takes on a whole new meaning.

I say all this to let you know where I've been and why I've been out of touch. No, I wasn't in a commune, being exorcised over the election results, I was just out of touch and OUT OF MY MIND! Cut off from talking with family, friends, doing research for my writing and the like.

If anyone has alternative way of communications, please advise. For dial-up internet, I am charged $12.50; for local service, which I don't use (I don't know anyone around here), is nearly $60 and unlimited long-distance (which I use all the time) is another $30. Staying in touch with the world, has taken on a whole new meaning...

Love Letters to Federal Employees

An old favorite refrain from Sonny and Cher says it all..."and the beat goes on."

In a post, no pun intended, from the Washington Post, today, news is out about letters President-elect Obama addressed to federal employees on how he plans to change the agencies in which they work...

offering detailed descriptions of how he intends to add muscle to specific government programs, give new power to bureaucrats and roll back some Bush administration policies.

Employees of all seven agencies were contacted...

describing Obama's intention to scale back on contracts to private firms doing government work, to remove censorship from scientific research, and to champion tougher industry regulation to protect workers and the environment. He made it clear that the Department of Housing and Urban Development would have an enhanced role in restoring public confidence in the housing market, shaken because of the ongoing mortgage crisis.

For the Social Security Administration, he plans on adding more personnel to handle the backlog of disability cases.

Now this is a good thing. I've known too many folks that continued to be denied disability, not because they were not disabled, but it has been known for years that a "quota system" had to be met...usually three to five years of applying and re-applying, to finally receive their check.

The problem is, while awaiting the approval, marriages would break up, the business undergoes hardship and closes, foreclosure of home, car repossessed...you name it, once reaching the bottom, the little health that was once there is now gone, and so is the mental health.

So this is a good thing...IF they can process more cases.

"I asked him to put it in writing, something I could use with my members, and he didn't flinch," said John Gage, president of the 600,000-member American Federation of Government Employees, who requested that Obama write the letters, which were distributed through the union. "The fact that he's willing to put his name to it is a good sign."

The letters, all but one written Oct. 20, reveal a candidate adeptly tailoring his message to a federal audience and tapping into many workers' dismay at funding cuts and workforce downsizing in the Bush years. Many of Obama's promises would require additional funding, something he acknowledged would be difficult to achieve under the current economic conditions.

Obama spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said the letters were intended to communicate to federal workers his position on their agencies.

In a letter to Labor Department employees, Obama wrote: "I believe that it's time we stopped talking about family values and start pursuing policies that truly value families, such as paid family leave, flexible work schedules, and telework, with the federal government leading by example."

Department of Defense was the only agency not promised anything, which I believe is not good. In order for us to maintain a safe country, our defense must be made stronger. Otherwise we will be stepping off into potential chaos if we were attacked and also that of our allies. We must be ready to stand. My problem with acquainting a new "civilian defense force" ... who will make up this force. Will there be an indoctrination from birth forward? What dynamics will these "forces" be comprised of and how will their roles be made?

Restructuring our nation and its people, in these times will be a very tricky strategy as there are too many variables involved.

I sure wouldn't want to be in his shoes, but then I want to know where he plans on taking us in those shoes.

Redistribution of Wealth? NOT!

I know the campaign is over with a new president being installed shortly.

All those plans and agendas that were promised, are shortly to be fulfilled, right? I want to see a show of hands who believe this.

Well, first of all...that agenda (some fifty plus (50) pages if downloaded), as defined on his website, have been scrubbed...NON-EXISTA!

Why was it scrubbed? When asked, a member of his transition team stated they were "retooling" the site.

I bet!

Seems to me that when one makes a promise, especially in an election, they should keep it. But mark my words, read my lips, there won't be a REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH!

I can hear them saying now, "Oh, Oli, you're so full of it." Actually, my eyes are green which still mean I'm a quart low.

So why am I shouting this now?

Who put this man in office? If you believe in the tooth fairy, santa claus, and the easter bunny, then you think all the little people donated under $200 to his campaign coffers. The man raised more than six hundred million dollars which didn't come from the little folks. Too many rich folks did.

Don't believe a word about this promise. The WEALTHY didn't get rich by giving it away. Most of them are misers...I know a few! There are some exceptions, but even the Bible says it will be easier for a camel to get through the eye of the needle than a rich man.

Have you EVER seen a poor man in power? Don't think there is one, however, Obama did come from "simple" means, but who is he surrounded by? Who provided for him on his climb up? Wasn't student loans (Michelle had some, but not bo), but men of power and influence.

You think these powers that be want to SHARE their wealth, by being taxed to death? NOT! You think they are going to be made to pay higher taxes and we, the little folk, reap the benefits? Won't happen...greed had taken over the white house since the beginning of the 60's, after JFK's death. All the president's in recent history, have walked out with extreme bonuses, though, little is known about that or is rarely mentioned.

The Clinton's never owned a home until they left the white house. Now they own two, one outside New York City, for Bill, and the other in Washington for Hill. And these aren't cheap hovels, so again, where did the monies come from? Who invested in them to get what they wanted?

Free Speech?

From Drudge link, I found this interesting...is this going to become the rule of the day? Is this the first rule of the day, speaking out against the office of POTUS? Uh, what is happening to free speech? What is happening to our way of life? Is this the beginning of the civilian troops?

Remarks against Obama probed
Durham police conducting internal investigation; chief says it wasn't a slur
Stanley B. Chambers Jr., Staff Writer Comment on this story
DURHAM - Derogatory remarks toward President-elect Barack Obama made on a social networking Web site are now the subject of an internal police investigation.

A police department employee claims the statements were made on the MySpace pages of two Durham officers.

"There's no exact words that were said," said Police Chief Jose L. Lopez Sr. in a telephone interview Wednesday from San Diego, where he is attending the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference. "It wasn't a racial slur, but we're still investigating it."

Investigators, who are focusing on the context of what was written, have been looking into the allegations since Thursday.

Lopez wouldn't disclose what was said or identify the officers involved.

City Manager Tom Bonfield, who was notified of the investigation late Tuesday afternoon, said he advised Lopez to complete it as quickly as possible.

Bonfield, whom Lopez reports to, said the department has the discretion to notify him of such inquiries.

The police, as well as other city agencies, have a good sense of when an issue is big enough to notify him, said Bonfield, who added that he notified city council members within an hour of talking with Lopez.

"It's important that the investigators have a chance to do their jobs and make sure they get all of the information," he said. "I think it's important that the police are given the opportunity to respond against any allegations against them."

Bonfield added that if the allegations are found to be true and officers posted racially charged statements, then an appropriate response by the department would be warranted.

The department's code of conduct, under the heading "private life," states that an officer's "character and conduct while off duty must always be exemplary, thus maintaining a position of respect in the community in which he or she lives and serves. The officer's personal behavior must be beyond reproach."

Lopez said even though the remarks were made on a personal Web page, the comments could be a violation of the policy.

"As a police officer, it doesn't matter where you do it, if you provide disservice to the organization, it violates the [department's] code of conduct," he said. "It is a high standard that officers are held accountable to."

"Something of Historic Proportion is Happening"

Dear Lord, if folks can't SEE this, then they deserve what they get. Thank you Atlas Shrugs for this post today...and thank you, Pat Dollard for the 2006 audio with bo's cheif of staff speaking about their Gestopo plan!

You need to feed this to all contacts you know to let them know what we are in for!
http://patdollard.com/2008/11/discovered-2006-audio-obama%E2%80%99s-chief-of-staff-describes-mandatory-civil-service-plan/

The following was within the comment section on the Dollard site...

I am a student of history. Professionally. I have written 15 books in six languages, and have studied it all my life. I think there is something monumentally large afoot, and I do not believe it is just a banking crisis, or a mortgage crisis, or a credit crisis. Yes these exist, but they are merely single facets on a very large gemstone that is only now coming into a sharper focus.

Something of historic proportions is happening. I can sense it because I know how it feels, smells, what it looks like, and how people react to it. Yes, a perfect storm may be brewing, but there is something happening within our country that has been evolving for about ten - fifteen years. The pace has dramatically quickened in the past two.

We demand and then codify into law the requirement that our banks make massive loans to people we know they can never pay back? Why?

We learn just days ago that the Federal Reserve, which has little or no real oversight by anyone, has “loaned” two trillion dollars (that is $2,000,000,000,000) over the past few months, but will not tell us to whom or why or disclose the terms. That is our money. Yours and mine. And that is three times the 700B we all argued about so strenuously just this past September. Who has this money? Why do they have it? Why are the terms unavailable to us? Who asked for it? Who authorized it? I thought this was a government of “we the people,” who loaned our powers to our elected leaders. Apparently not.

We have spent two or more decades intentionally de-industrializing our economy. Why?

We have intentionally dumbed down our schools, ignored our history, and no longer teach our founding documents, why we are exceptional, and why we are worth preserving. Students by and large cannot write, think critically, read, or articulate. Parents are not revolting, teachers are not picketing, school boards continue to back mediocrity. Why?

We have now established the precedent of protesting every close election (now violently in California over a proposition that is so controversial that it wants marriage to remain between one man and one woman. Did you ever think such a thing possible just a decade ago?). We have corrupted our sacred political process by allowing unelected judges to write laws that radically change our way of life, and then mainstream Marxist groups like ACORN and others to turn our voting system into a banana republic. To what purpose?

Now our mortgage industry is collapsing, housing prices are in free fall, major industries are failing, our banking system is on the verge of collapse, social security is nearly bankrupt, as is medicare and our entire government, our education system is worse than a joke (I teach college and know precisely what I am talking about)–the list is staggering in its length, breadth, and depth. It is potentially 1929 x ten. And we are at war with an enemy we cannot name for fear of offending people of the same religion, who cannot wait to slit the throats of your children if they have the opportunity to do so.

And now we have elected a man no one knows anything about, who has never run so much as a Dairy Queen, let alone a town as big as Wasilla, Alaska. All of his associations and alliances are with real radicals in their chosen fields of employment, and everything we learn about him, drip by drip, is unsettling if not downright scary (Surely you have heard him speak about his idea to create and fund a mandatory civilian defense force stronger than our military for use inside our borders? No? Oh of course. The media would never play that for you over and over and then demand he answer it. Sarah Palin’s pregnant daughter and $150,000 wardrobe is more imporant.)

Mr. Obama’s winning platform can be boiled down to one word: change.

Why?

I have never been so afraid for my country and for my children as I am now.

This man campaigned on bringing people together, something he has never, ever done in his professional life. In my assessment, Obama will divide us along philosophical lines, push us apart, and then try to realign the pieces into a new and different power structure. Change is indeed coming. And when it comes, you will never see the same nation again.

And that is only the beginning.

And I thought I would never be able to experience what the ordinary, moral German felt in the mid-1930s. In those times, the savior was a former smooth-talking rabble-rouser from the streets, about whom the average German knew next to nothing. What they did know was that he was associated with groups that shouted, shoved, and pushed around people with whom they disagreed; he edged his way onto the political stage through great oratory and promises. Economic times were tough, people were losing jobs, and he was a great speaker. And he smiled and waved a lot. And people, even newspapers, were afraid to speak out for fear that his “brown shirts” would bully them into submission. And then, he was duly elected to office, a full-throttled economic crisis at hand [the Great Depression]. Slowly but surely he seized the controls of government power, department by department, person by person, bureaucracy by bureaucracy. The kids joined a Youth Movement in his name, where they were taught what to think. How did he get the people on his side? He did it promising jobs to the jobless, money to the moneyless, and goodies for the military-industrial complex. He did it by indoctrinating the children, advocating gun control, health care for all, better wages, better jobs, and promising to re-instill pride once again in the country, across Europe, and across the world.

He did it with a compliant media–did you know that? And he did this all in the name of justice and . . . change. And the people surely got what they voted for.

(Look it up if you think I am exaggerating.)

Read your history books. Many people objected in 1933 and were shouted down, called names, laughed at, and made fun of. When Winston Churchill pointed out the obvious in the late 1930s while seated in the House of Lords in England (he was not yet Prime Minister), he was booed into his seat and called a crazy troublemaker. He was right, though.

Don’t forget that Germany was the most educated, cultured country in Europe. It was full of music, art, museums, hospitals, laboratories, and universities. And in less than six years–a shorter time span than just two terms of the U. S. presidency–it was rounding up its own citizens, killing others, abrogating its laws, turning children against parents, and neighbors against neighbors. All with the best of intentions, of course. The road to Hell is paved with them.

As a practical thinker, one not overly prone to emotional decisions, I have a choice: I can either believe what the objective pieces of evidence tell me (even if they make me cringe with disgust); I can believe what history is shouting to me from across the chasm of seven decades; or I can hope I am wrong by closing my eyes, having another latte, and ignoring what is transpiring around me.

Some people scoff at me, others laugh, or think I am foolish, naive, or both. Perhaps I am. But I have never been afraid to look people in the eye and tell them exactly what I believe–and why I believe it.

I pray I am wrong. I do not think I am.

Mombasa Imam seeking asylum in UK

Gone viral this morning. It was reported last week that an Imam had the records of blessing of Barack Hussein Obama Jr, born in Mombasa, August 4th, 1961.

Reported in the UK today, Man from Kenya seeking help from UK he's got proof of Obama's BC.

Mombasa Imam who confirmed Obama ’s birth place arrives in the UK

The Imam who came forward to assist in the search of Barack Obama’s identity left Kenya secretly last night, and will arrive in the UK this morning. He will meet with a US contact person who will assist him in recording an asylum statement in the UK after handing over the documents that caused the blessing of Obama when he was born and to confirm the origin of the name Hussein.

The man will join relatives in the UK because his life will be in danger if he were to return to Kenya after removing the documents from the Mosque’s archives and taking them out of the country. The man has been informed about the on-going case filed in the US Supreme Court by attorney Philip Berg challenging Barack Obama’s citizenship.

When the man heard that Jerome Corsi was in Kenya a few months ago, he took a decision to try and meet him, but had to travel back to Mombasa from Nairobi on hearing that Corsi had been bundled and taken to the airport on deportation orders.

The Imam is the grandson of the late Imam who blessed Barack Obama when he was born in Mombasa on the 4th of august 1961.

While in the UK, the Imam and the American contact person will visit Amnesty International before handing himself over to the authorities where he will formally deliver his application for asylum. The contact man has arranged so that they get an official from Amnesty international to accompany them to the home office desk where he will inform them on he dangers that will face him if he were to return to Kenya after delivering the documents on Obama.

This may now bring to close the speculations on Obama’s citizenship and the secrecy on where he was born.

API will dispatch a detailed letter in support of the Imam’s - application for asylum and protection - to the UK Home Office Secretary later today. The letter will be made available on the site here, but minus the names of the Imam.

Transparent Government, at last

Yipeeeeeeee!

No more secrets in the White House! Well, its about time! Now we will know everything that goes on behind those massive doors to the oval office. We will know things just as they happen. We will know just what our president thinks when he thinks it. No more hiding behind veils of privacy.

We will be on the leading edge of government decisions and allowed to see, at last, the inner most thoughts of our President...right?

At yesterday's private meeting between Dubbyah and BO, Bo's aides couldn't wait to let the public know what was said. I guess Bo wants to really change how things have been done since our beginning...this is good right?

But something causes me concern. Did any one bother to read the nearly 50 pages of promises to America, posted by the BO campaign? I kinda doubt it, right? Well, noted in a forum yesterday, I found that all those pages were scrubbed off the site November 7th.

Wonder why? Can they not keep the promises or "goals" they listed? No worry, I found a link to the cached pages and downloaded all the goodies, saving them to remind myself and you when one may be altered.

But hey, that's no problem...Bo made his talk known with Dubbyah...so he'll keep all secrets open from now on...right?

$2 Trillion - where did it go?

Ok, top of Drudge this morning, HUGE headlines about the $2 trillion that has been given out by our lovely government. Two trillion?

For what? Bloomberg news has the lowdown. Note those guvment folks behind it...like Barney Frank, who needs to be drawn and quartered as being the head of the House Financial Services Committee Chair...

Fed Defies Transparency Aim in Refusal to Identify Bank Loans

By Mark Pittman, Bob Ivry and Alison Fitzgerald

Nov. 10 (Bloomberg) -- The Federal Reserve is refusing to identify the recipients of almost $2 trillion of emergency loans from American taxpayers or the troubled assets the central bank is accepting as collateral.

Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said in September they would comply with congressional demands for transparency in a $700 billion bailout of the banking system. Two months later, as the Fed lends far more than that in separate rescue programs that didn't require approval by Congress, Americans have no idea where their money is going or what securities the banks are pledging in return.

``The collateral is not being adequately disclosed, and that's a big problem,'' said Dan Fuss, vice chairman of Boston- based Loomis Sayles & Co., where he co-manages $17 billion in bonds. ``In a liquid market, this wouldn't matter, but we're not. The market is very nervous and very thin.''

Bloomberg News has requested details of the Fed lending under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act and filed a federal lawsuit Nov. 7 seeking to force disclosure.

The Fed made the loans under terms of 11 programs, eight of them created in the past 15 months, in the midst of the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression.

``It's your money; it's not the Fed's money,'' said billionaire Ted Forstmann, senior partner of Forstmann Little & Co. in New York. ``Of course there should be transparency.''

Federal Reserve spokeswoman Michelle Smith declined to comment on the loans or the Bloomberg lawsuit. Treasury spokeswoman Michele Davis didn't respond to a phone call and an e-mail seeking comment.

The Fed's lending is significant because the central bank has stepped into a rescue role that was also the purpose of the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP, bailout plan -- without safeguards put into the TARP legislation by Congress.

$2 Trillion

Total Fed lending topped $2 trillion for the first time last week and has risen by 140 percent, or $1.172 trillion, in the seven weeks since Fed governors relaxed the collateral standards on Sept. 14. The difference includes a $788 billion increase in loans to banks through the Fed and $474 billion in other lending, mostly through the central bank's purchase of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bonds.

Before Sept. 14, the Fed accepted mostly top-rated government and asset-backed securities as collateral. After that date, the central bank widened standards to accept other kinds of securities, some with lower ratings. The Fed collects interest on all its loans.

The plan to purchase distressed securities through TARP called for buying at the ``lowest price that the secretary (of the Treasury) determines to be consistent with the purposes of this Act,'' according to the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, the law that covers TARP.

`We Need Transparency'

The legislation didn't require any specific method for the purchases beyond saying mechanisms such as auctions or reverse auctions should be used ``when appropriate.'' In a reverse auction, bidders offer to sell securities at successively lower prices, helping to ensure that the Fed would pay less. The measure also included a five-member oversight board that includes Paulson and Bernanke.

At a Sept. 23 Senate Banking Committee hearing in Washington, Paulson called for transparency in the purchase of distressed assets under the TARP program.

``We need oversight,'' Paulson told lawmakers. ``We need protection. We need transparency. I want it. We all want it.''

At a joint House-Senate hearing the next day, Bernanke also stressed the importance of openness in the program. ``Transparency is a big issue,'' he said.

Banks Resist Disclosure

The Fed lent cash and government bonds to banks, which gave the Fed collateral in the form of equities and debt, including subprime and structured securities such as collateralized debt obligations, according to the Fed web site. The borrowers have included the now-bankrupt Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., Citigroup Inc. and JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Banks oppose any release of information because it might signal weakness and spur short-selling or a run by depositors, said Scott Talbott, senior vice president of government affairs for the Financial Services Roundtable, a Washington trade group.

``You have to balance the need for transparency with protecting the public interest,'' Talbott said. ``Taxpayers have a right to know where their tax dollars are going, but one piece of information standing alone could undermine public confidence in the system.''

Frank Backs Fed

The nation's biggest banks, Citigroup, Bank of America Corp., JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo & Co., Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Morgan Stanley, declined to comment on whether they have borrowed money from the Fed. They received $120 billion in capital from the TARP, which was signed into law Oct. 3.

In an interview Nov. 6, House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank said the Fed's disclosure is sufficient and that the risk the central bank is taking on is appropriate in the current economic climate. Frank said he has discussed the program with Timothy F. Geithner, president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and a possible candidate to succeed Paulson as Treasury secretary.

``I talk to Geithner and he was pretty sure that they're OK,'' said Frank, a Massachusetts Democrat. ``If the risk is that the Fed takes a little bit of a haircut, well that's regrettable.'' Such losses would be acceptable, he said, if the program helps revive the economy.

Frank said the Fed shouldn't reveal the assets it holds or how it values them because of ``delicacy with respect to pricing.'' He said such disclosure would ``give people clues to what your pricing is and what they might be able to sell us and what your estimates are.'' He wouldn't say why he thought that information would be problematic.

`Unclog the Market'

Revealing how the Fed values collateral could help thaw frozen credit markets, said Ron D'Vari, chief executive officer of NewOak Capital LLC in New York and the former head of structured finance at BlackRock Inc.

``I'd love to hear the methodology, how the Fed priced the assets,'' D'Vari said. ``That would unclog the market very quickly.''

TARP's $700 billion so far is being used to buy preferred shares in banks to shore up their capital. The program was originally intended to hold banks' troubled assets while markets were frozen.

The Bloomberg lawsuit argues that the collateral lists ``are central to understanding and assessing the government's response to the most cataclysmic financial crisis in America since the Great Depression.''

AIG Lending

The Fed has lent at least $81 billion to American International Group Inc., the world's largest insurer, so that it can pay obligations to banks. The central bank is also responsible for losses on a $26.8 billion portfolio guaranteed after Bear Stearns Cos. was bought by JPMorgan.

``As a taxpayer, it is absolutely important that we know how they're lending money and who they're lending it to,'' said Lucy Dalglish, executive director of the Arlington, Virginia- based Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press.

Ultimately, the Fed will have to remove some securities held as collateral from some programs because the central bank's rules call for instruments rated below investment grade to be taken back by the borrower and marked down in value. Losses on those assets could then be written off, partly through the capital recently injected into those banks by the Treasury.

Moody's Investors Service alone has cut its ratings on 926 mortgage-backed securities worth $42 billion to junk from investment grade since Sept. 14, making them ineligible for collateral on some Fed loans.

The Fed's collateral ``absolutely should be made public,'' said Mark Cuban, an activist investor, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks professional basketball team and the creator of the Web site BailoutSleuth.com, which focuses on the secrecy shrouding the Fed's moves.

Suffering from PTSD - UPDATE

UPDATE - 86% of Bailout Money Used for Executive Bonus

Wall Street Fat Cats Are Trying to Pocket Billions in Bailout Cash
By Nomi Prins, AlterNet. Posted November 7, 2008.

The election results pretty much confirmed the extent to which Main Street is rightly livid about the Wall Street mentality that led to our financial crisis. During his historic victory speech, President-elect Barack Obama told supporters, and the rest of the world, “If this financial crisis taught us anything, it’s that we cannot have a thriving Wall Street while Main Street suffers.”

But, it seems that Wall Street didn’t get that memo. It turns out that the nine banks about to be getting a total equity capital injection of $125 billion, courtesy of Phase I of The Bailout Plan, had reserved $108 billion during the first nine months of 2008 in order to pay for compensation and bonuses.

Paying Wall Street bonuses was not supposed to be part of the plan. At least that’s how Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson explained it to Congress and the American people. So, on Oct. 1, when the Senate, including Obama, approved the $700 billion bailout package, the illusion was that this would magically loosen the credit markets, and with taxpayer-funded relief, banks would first start lending to each other again, and then, to citizens and small businesses. And all would be well.

That didn’t happen. Which is why it’s particularly offensive that the no-strings-attached money is going to line the pockets of Wall Street execs. The country’s top investment bank (which since Sept. 21 calls itself a bank holding company), Goldman Sachs, set aside $11.4 billion during the first nine months of this year — slightly more than the firm’s $10 billion U.S. government gift — to cover bonus payments for its 443 senior partners, who are set to make about $5 million each, and other employees.

Two of those firms, Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers, went bankrupt this year. Bank of America is acquiring a third, Merrill Lynch. Shares in the remaining two, Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs, took a 60 percent nosedive this year.

Yet, that didn’t stop their campaign contribution money from spewing out. Goldman was Obama’s largest corporate campaign contributor, with $874,207. Also in his top 20 were three other recipients of bailout capital: JP Morgan/Chase, Citigroup and Morgan Stanley.

I’m ready for some “Change we can believe in”, but I doubt it will come from those in Washington who are bought and paid for.

PTSD

Yes, although we've been inundated with the "obamative" aftergrowth of unity, I still have not recovered from understanding just where we are headed. Of course this morning's interview of the new chief of the white house staff (wonder if that is politically correct as I've heard it called the black house now), Emmanuel, we still don't know ... I sure did feel Bob Scheiffer's pain as he questioned, without answers. Sounded like more of the same. I suppose Rahm didn't want to steal any of bo's glory.

Had there been a fair and honest election, I would not have minded an African American elected to office...say someone of Alan Keys stature. But that did not happen did it.

Instead we elected a man, who at his first press conference, made references to Nancy Reagon's seances in the White House, which she did not. She did consult an astrologer, but it was Hillary who had the seances to invoke the spirit of Eleanor Roosevelt. He then had to call Nancy to apologize. I fear that's just the first of many gaffes...he'll definitely need a teleprompter while in office. Stick to the script mutt, I mean BO.

But back to bo's first appointment, who speaketh out of both sides of his mouth....who, in fact, sat on the board of Freddie Mac, when the sh-t first began happening with this austere organization. Rahm also benefited from some hedge funds...I say this lightly, as benefited, meaning he made a sh-tload of money prior to the crash we are seeing today...as in the Clinton administration. Remember, Hillary made some REAL GOOD investments back then too...turning $1,000 into $100,000 overnight. Must be nice to be near the kind of power that can "hundred-duple" your investments....can you say 10,000 % profit? That was then, I don't think you can do that now, or can you? Yeah, take the markets down far enough, and they will rebound, if not the next day, one day, when we crawl out of this mess.

As I heard the pundits speak on George Stephanobaminus show this morning, I could hear all them answering with a cha-ching in their voice and the behemoth in the background running the paper machine grinding out more dollars...giving the federal reserve ample time to "dry" those $1 (promissory) bills before January 21, 2009.

I truly believe, as I did before the election, that we are not going to come out of this lightly and what is coming is an undesired blovation of empty promises...thus my cause for PTSD.

Its been quite hard for my little brain to wrap itself around what has happened. As I watched the after (math) party, Oprah crying, Jesse "someone needs to castrate him (BO) in an open mike" Jackson crying, the multitudes crying, "Yes we can", I had to wonder WTF?

He's no Moses, as a Bishop crowned him last week. I can't see him leading us out of the wilderness of financial collapse.

However, I can see him declaring Martial Law and bringing about a chaos that will allow him to become el presidente for life. Unfortunately, I see too much viral activity on the web to know there are folks that are getting prepared for such an event.

You, readers, need to be LISTENING for what "may" (and I do hope its not true), be coming. Don't think YOUR (Mommy and Daddy, who takes care of you) government will do just that...its not set up that way, never has been, never will take care of you. However, on the other hand, it (the M&D state) will take you. It already has...Just look around, first the housing regulators under Fannie and Freddie, then the banking system (two more banks fell this weekend and more to come), and now the auto industry is in a state of collapse. What is next?

The deck of cards were stacked long ago, we were too selfish to believe it could happen. Now we have a smooth talker saying it won't happen in the first 100 days...maybe not in his first term, but in his second. Uhhhhh? Second? Wait, wasn't it going to be ok, when he took office the first time?

Then "W" comes out to greet the Press the day after the election asking if it was ok if he quit the office now? Personally, after all the beating he's taken over policies developed by and kept in check by the former administration, through their agents in Congress, I'd want to leave too.

The 700 billion dollar BAILOUT, RESCUE wasn't needed. Talking with an old economist, who knows his sh-t, said the actual bailout of the housing crisis was a mere $85 billion. Yep, that's right, eighty-five billion. So where did the other $625 billion go?

As I recall, and you should too, the plan started out with a mere 3, THREE pages which by weeks end, it wound up over 480 pages of grift, greed and graft...just what McCain was talking about.

Puleez, whatever you do, dig for information...its out there, you just need to look at it. Plain as day.

It wasn't the fact that BO is black...I could care less about that. I just don't like the company he's kept all these years and he's kept company. That too, will come out in the wash.

What you don't know is that although the Supreme Court did not stop the election on the 4th, they have asked Obama to produce a vault copy of his birth certificate by December 1. And you think he suspended his campaign, to visit his ailing grandmother in Hawaii? Not that I am a conspiracy theorist, but one has to wonder........especially since we didn't know she suffered from anything other than osteoporosis and more recently, a broken hip, when the day before elections, she dies. Bet he does come up with a "vault" certificate now, no one alive to dispute it. And the statement issued by the campaign that they would have a private service later? Duh, was she cremated? They holding her in cold storage? Wow, Granny, what a way to go! Oh, and lest I forget, Granny Toots had voted by absentee ballot before she died. Did she actually vote, or someone "help" her vote?

See why I suffer from post traumatic stress disorder?

bo's finger salute to McCain

Well, first bo salutes Hillary during the primaries, and now he salutes McCain.

I do believe he has the same feeling toward all WE AMERICANS and all that WE stand for.

What a filthy, ugly creature. I don't see him as human, much less a man who will steal our office of President with all the hooks, crooks, terrorists, and sheeple.

Surely he can do it...look at all the information out there on his financial backers...oh, yes, all those folks, those poor folks who sent in $10 - $200 contributions using GIFT CARDS? Duh?
Riiiight!!!

We have a bad, bad, bad problem here...get everyone you know that has any doubt to stop this creature from violating our sacred trust!

What the F??? Fox?

I've been following this campaign far, far to long. I can't get FOX, but I can follow through the blogosphere out there that FOX (F) is now changing tunes. Apparently, the once fair and balanced news organization is now conceding an bo win.

WTF?

It's never over till the fat lady sings...and there are those out there that are singing, including me. I cannot imagine why the swing to bo...since he booted 3 reporters from his plane this week, one of which was a F reporter.

Even ole Rupert, the owner of F, is saying bo must not win.

There are clearly problems with bo. It is all over the net...even folks saying that the net may be restricted once he gains office...suppression of free speech...especially when it is not in his favor. The truth is out there.

API, African Press International, has been promoting a tape of bo's wife, stating all manner of stuff, but nothing has been produced.

However, at America's Right, a tape has surfaced and is posted there with an interview with bo's step-grandmother stating she was at the hospital in Mombasa, Kenya at bo's birth.

Don't know if it is credible, but something is wrong when we look to the media for information, and they skew it to fit the moment.

I am amazed at our society has raised a bunch of sheeple who want the government to be their mommy and daddy, curing all their ills.

What has happened to "being all you can be"? Where are the balls that our forefather's had to separate themselves from an suppressive form of monarchy?

Mark my words, if and I surely hope if, bo is elected to office, he will not "change the world" to fit his socialist beliefs. The future generations will pay dearly for the mistakes made on November 4, 2008.

Before they disappear from the shelves, find the books that define what patriotism, loyalty and honor. Give them to the young, because they are our only hope, their only hope for a future redeemed from the New World Order.

Then again, maybe this is beginning of the end and it is something that HAS to be, in order for separate the wheat from the chaff. Time will only tell, and to deny our ally, Israel, will certainly be our downfall.

bo wants to sit down with the PLO, Hamas, and other communist heads of state to "talk" things out...a tactic that won't work.

Tell everyone you know, just as bo has advised his "folk" to do to us (get in their faces) and tell them what is at stake!

GO VOTE! Your grandchildren are depending on it!

U tube pro obambi

Yep its true...just try to pull up an anti-obambi video and its no longer available, some mysterious alien has bumped it from their system..."Its no longer available!"

Now imagine that.

Wonder if you would be willing to boycott u tube for censoring the truth? Hmmmmm. Makes one wonder what other censorship we will see when/if the great one takes office of POTUS.

He's not eligible, but there are so many fools out there who are looking for the one...hey idiots, bo ain't it...but you'll find out, cause (little) he is coming.

Narrow is the gate, straight is the way and few that enter therein!

Birth Certificate controversy

Finally the word is getting out as the elections close in - just eleven days away. Every day has brought more and more questions as to BO's eligibility to run for POTUS and no wonder.

Many of the questions arise out of bo's own mouth, should I say writings. Dreams of my father, he quotes or refers to a "Frank". This brings into question if Frank is actually his father, a 60's civil rights activist, and close friends of his grandfather. Questions of his grandfather's affiliation with the communist party, his mother's marriage to a Indonesian muslim, Lolo Soetoro, who adopted "Barry"...there's just too many questions that remain unanswered.

Then this week, bo's granny, becomes deathly ill...on Monday...and he waits until Thursday to visit her. She is the only remaining soul who knows bo's true heritage, and yet he's kept her in hiding since announcing his run for POTUS.

As many have mentioned, she has osteoporosis, which, under normal care, is not a life threatening condition. Being 85 is considered young by many standards and then the latest pictures, or only pictures shown by the networks, are more than twenty years old.

Jay Schreiber, at America's Right has been on the frontlines since Berg filed his lawsuit. He has access to the court in which the suit was filed and will provide the latest information, when Judge Surrick gives his decision. Some have already mentioned the suit has been decided and references a site and 38 page decision.

However, I will wait until I see it on AR, as should everyone else.

News of this and many other suits have been filed across the nation. Berg was interviewed by Michael Savage on the entire show Thursday night. Newsmax, along with World Net Daily blogs are finally giving this information traction.

Obama Refuses to Answer Birth Certificate Lawsuit
Friday, October 24, 2008 4:16 PM

By: Kenneth R. Timmerman

A Pennsylvania lawsuit alleging that Barack Obama is not a “natural-born citizen” of the United States took an unusual twist this week, after a federally mandated deadline requiring Obama’s lawyers to produce a “vault” copy of his birth certificate expired with no response from Obama or his lawyers.

The lawsuit, filed by former Pennsylvania Deputy Attorney General Philip J. Berg — a self-avowed supporter of Hillary Clinton — alleges that Barack Obama was born in Kenya and is thus “ineligible” to run for president of the United States. It demands that Obama’s lawyers produce a copy of his original birth certificate to prove that he is a natural-born U.S. citizen.

Berg's suit and allegations have set off a wave of Internet buzz and rumors, though Obama could easily have put the matter to rest by providing the federal court with the basic documentation proving he is eligible to take the oath of a president. But Obama has apparently decided to deny the court and the public that documentation.

The Constitution provides that any U.S. citizen is eligible to become president if the person is 35 years of age or older and is a natural-born citizen; that is, born in the territorial United States.

By failing to respond to the Request for Admissions and Request for the Production of Documents within 30 days, Obama has “admitted” that he was born in Kenya, Berg stated this week in new court filings.

Berg released a long list of “admissions” he submitted to Obama’s lawyers on Sept. 15, and asked that they produce documents relating to Obama’s place of birth and citizenship.

Instead of responding, lawyers for Obama and the DNC asked the court to dismiss the case. But Judge R. Barclay Surrick of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania has issued no ruling in the case that would have given Obama’s lawyers more time.

“There are lots of legal ways to stonewall,” a well-placed Republican attorney told Newsmax, who was not authorized to comment officially on the case. “But failing to respond is not one of them.”

“The first thing they teach you in law school,” he added, “is don’t put a complaint like this in a drawer. That’s how a nuisance case can become a problem.”

The 30-day deadline for defendants to comply with a discovery request is set forth in the Federal Rules of Civil Procedures.

“It all comes down to the fact that there's nothing from the other side,” Berg said after he filed a motion on Thursday for summary judgment.

“The admissions are there. By not filing the answers or objections, the defense has admitted everything. [Obama] admits he was born in Kenya. He admits he was adopted in Indonesia. He admits that the documentation posted online is a phony. And he admits that he is constitutionally ineligible to serve as president of the United States.”

In a contentious case, lawyers on both sides will haggle over the production of documents, and will frequently go beyond the deadlines, several lawyers told Newsmax.

“The rules are more often complied with in the breech rather than the observance,” a senior trial attorney who has close ties to the Democrat Party, but is not involved in the current case, told Newsmax.

“Lawyers frequently do not return telephone calls or meet discovery deadlines because of sheer inadvertence. Therefore, we do not consider a failure to respond as a ‘violation,’” he said.

Allegations surrounding Obama’s place of birth have been swirling for months. Earlier this year, the Obama campaign sought to put down the rumors by making available a computer-generated Certification of Live Birth, issued in 2007 by the State of Hawaii. [See the Certification of Live Birth — Click Here.]

Respected conservative blogger Ed Morrissey called the Berg lawsuit a “conspiracy theory” that had been put to rest by the Obama campaign over the summer but ”has arisen like a zombie yet again to suck the credibility out of the conservative blogosphere.”

However, the 2007 document produced by the Obama campaign omits key information that normally appears on birth certificates in the United States, including the name of the hospital where he was born, the size and weight of the baby, and sometimes the name of the doctor who delivered him.

In addition, the critics of the 2007 document note that Obama's father is described as “African,” a term used today. The formal language in official documents at the time — 1961 — would have identified his race as “Negro” or “Colored.”

The Web site snarkybytes.com has produced a vault copy of a Hawaii Certificate of Live Birth from 1963, issued by the Hawaii Department of Health. [See the vault copy — Click Here.]

In addition to naming the hospital and more details about the baby, the 1963 vault copy also includes the “usual residence of the mother,” and the “usual occupation” of the father. None of this information appears on the 2007 Live Birth certificate produced by the Obama campaign.

Berg has been a perennial political candidate in Pennsylvania, having run in Democrat primaries for attorney general, lieutenant governor, governor, and other offices without success. He served as deputy attorney general of the State of Pennsylvania from 1972-1980.

His credibility was tarnished by work he did for the far-left “9/11 for the Truth” campaign, which alleged in a federal lawsuit that the collapse of the twin towers in New York was caused by “controlled demolition” ordered by the president of the United States.

Nevertheless, in recent weeks, lawsuits have been filed in seven additional states demanding that Barack Obama produce an original vault copy of his birth certificate, to dispel the rumors that he is not a natural-born United States citizen.

The latest suits have been filed in state and federal courts in Hawaii, Washington, California, Florida, Georgia, New York, and Connecticut to compel Obama to release his birth records.

Lawsuits in Washington and Georgia are seeking state superior courts to force the states’ secretary of state, as the chief state elections officer, to require Obama to produce original birth records from Hawaii, or else decertify him as a candidate for the presidency.

Ironically, Obama mentions his birth certificate in passing on Page 26 of his 1995 memoir, “Dreams of My Father.” “I discovered this article, folded away among my birth certificate and old vaccination forms, when I was in high school,” he wrote.

Lawyers for Obama and the DNC did not return calls for comment on the current status of the case, or explain why the Obama campaign did not simply put to rest the whole controversy by releasing the birth certificate that Obama apparently cherished as a teenager.

In the past, questions about Sen. John McCain's legal status have arisen. McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone at a U.S. Army hospital. McCain had legal experts vet his constitutional qualifications, and he also disclosed a copy of his birth certificate.

It is not over yet, but we all need to pray that no blood is shed on our sacred soil should bo is not eligible to run for POTUS.
